EDUCATIONAL FILM IN DEVELOPMENT
No scientific subject has captured the public imagination more than the search for aliens. And no subject has besieged the public with more bogus, fantastical and downright false information. But the public’s fascination with aliens presents a wonderful opportunity to create a film that will both teach the real science behind the search for extraterrestrials and, even more fundamentally, to show how to separate truth from fiction.
The Search for Aliens is a perfect subject to get people excited about science. It begins with a subject that already fascinates millions of people and it involves almost every type of scientific pursuit. A whole slew of concepts can be introduced in an engaging way astronomy, geology, chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and a large dose of imagination. All these are brought to bear to answer just one simple question: Where are they?
The possibility of contacting alien life is still a complete unknown. And because it is a science without any hard evidence, it demonstrates how far we can go in the pursuit of knowledge just by thinking. What is the probability of life in the universe? Where should we look for aliens? What would they look like? How would we communicate with them? Even though the answers are still highly speculative, all of these questions can be approached on a sound scientific basis. While the audience is learning about how to search for aliens, they can also be learning how to search for truth.
